8 Lonesome George.
Aged between 90 and 100, weighting 90kg. Was a native of Pinta, an isolated northern island of the Galápagos.
Discovered in 1972, was immediately brought into captivity at the Charles Darwin research station on the island of Santa Cruz .
He is the last of his subspecies remaining Pinta in1972.



9 With weights over 500 lbs and shells measuring 59 inches.
Galapagos Tortoises are among the largest on earth. Their life span of more than 150 years.
